Touchstones Workshop: Level 1 (part A, online)

This introductory workshop offers ample hands-on practice in Touchstones discussion leadership. Expert trainers engage participants directly in exploring barriers to participation, how to foster cooperative learning, and what it takes to build active listening in the classroom. You'll learn and apply strategies and tools that foster more student-centered, civil, and inclusive discussions right away.

This workshop is ideal for any teacher who is already using Touchstones programs, just getting started, or who is interested in experiencing our transformative approach to teaching and learning. You'll come away understanding how Touchstones classes one class period a week effectively facilitate active learning, critical thinking, increased self-awareness, and a greater sense of responsibility to others. In addition, you’ll see how skills learned in Touchstones support student learning and prosocial behavior across the board!

Saturday, November 9, 2024 | 10:00am - 1:00pm ET

This introductory workshop continues with hands-on practice in Touchstones discussion leadership. Participants build on the training received in Part 1 to delve more deeply into what is required for active listening—how to model and practice it with students in the classroom. You’ll also explore how to use collaborative leadership to effectively shift responsibility for discussion quality and outcomes to each student and the class as a whole. Take-aways include new strategies and tools that cultivate student cooperation and self-awareness, authentic connections, and a sense of community in any classroom.

This workshop is ideal for any teacher who is already using Touchstones programs, just getting started, or who is interested in experiencing our transformative approach to teaching and learning. You'll come away understanding how Touchstones classes one class period a week effectively facilitate active learning, critical thinking, increased self-awareness, and a greater sense of responsibility to others. Plus, you’ll have worked with peer educators who share your love of classroom discussions and the challenges they sometimes bring.
