Amanda Engels graduated with a BFA from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley College in Boston, MA. She also studied at Lorenzo de’ Medici Art Institute in Florence, Italy.
Much of Amanda’s work examines intimate moments within the domestic sphere. As she has commented, “In this work, [The Necklace], I try to capture the stillness and beauty that can be found in everyday moments.”
The choice of subject has its roots in European painting, but the contemplative mood and more modern inflection of Engel’s work are more reminiscent of the Boston School of American Impressionists, led by Edmund Tarbell and Frank Weston Benson.
