“I have mostly agonized over how to lead whole class discussions on readings, to get students to probe a text collaboratively, to enable them to claim a place in college discussions.
The solution has been Touchstones, which I have used as supplements in Reading for Non-Native Speakers courses. Touchstones is a methodology that trains students to participate meaningfully, confidently, and cooperatively.”
- Prof. Marcia BronsteinLearning Communities Coordinator, Montgomery College
Touchstones is used successfully in Community Colleges both to upgrade higher level thinking and communication skills of entering students and also to strengthen and accelerate fluency among students learning English.
In Montgomery College in Maryland Marcia Bronstein the chair of the English Dept spearheaded the program for both types of students. She used Touchstones Volume 1and Volume 2 .
In Seattle’s City Community College, The Compass was used to encourage older students to feel empowered as they undertook new training and careers.
